Is gray, not tan. Chin strap not as pictured.

I LOVE Sunday Afternoons hats, have several, but this time I am not fond of the hat. The color looks like tan online, but it is more gray than tan. Ok, I am not pleased with the color but can live with it. However the chin strap this time is just a rubbery piece that slides up and down, not the plastic piece pictured that allows one to squeeze it and adjust it up or down. Is it defective or a new less-desirable design? Not sure but it seems prone to wearing out.

Pleased with this purchase

Bought this for an Alaskan cruise and it was sunny the entire trip. But worked nicely as sun protection and looked cute in the selfies.

Not the same as Cloudburst Rain Hat

Don't remember when I bought, 10+ years ago(?) the original "Cloudburst Rain Hat", but it served me well until it didn't - no longer rain proof.

This hat is barely doable as what happened to the really long neck flap? And the slide on the chin strap? This new one is not an easy adjustment.
But! I will say the front brim design is a nice improvement. The material construction is way lighter then the old Cloudburst, but guessing that is due to advancements in materials.

I've been out in a decent downpour- no wind - for about 45 minutes. And yes it kept my head dry. So, yes I will keep and wear it as there really isn't a better option out there. If I lose it or wear it out, yeah I'll buy another one.

Recommendation: Coming from a "Cloudburst Hat" I think you'll be disappointed.
But as a first time buyer I think you'll really like it.

Not the best hat for rain

I love the Sundancer hat but because I wear expensive hearing aids that can’t get wet I ordered this one as well.

I am so disappointed!

The brim is narrower and the cape in the back isn’t as long nor as wide. If the rain is falling vertically then, maybe, it would be OK. But if the rain is blowing from in front or the sides e.g. on a windy blustery day, as is often the case, this hat won’t provide the protection I need.

Waiting for a storm.

Perfect hat for in the hot sun, especially in Texas sun. My head and face feels protected. Haven't had the opportunity to test with rain ... yet

-Neck strap tightener broken/defective

Love the style, but the neck strap tightener was prob broken and hard to use. Not like the ones on my other Sunday Afternoon hats. Too much of a hassle to return.

My favorite hat

I bought this hat almost 10 years ago. It keeps all the rain away, keeps the water off the back of my neck and down into my clothing, the webbing inside keeps it so my head doesn't get sweaty. This is a fantastic hat. My daughter borrowed my hat when she volunteered at a wildlife rescue and without in the pouring rain all the time cleaning the enclosures. I kept the rain out of her eyes and off her back. I can't say enough about this fantastic hat. I'm a woman but find that men's hats usually fit a little better. This hat is quite large though. When I bought it it came in different sizes, I don't see that often now. I wish I had gotten a little bit smaller size even with the adjustment on the back

Dual-Protection, Well-Designed Hat

Wore hat in rain and kept my head dry. Bought it for an upcoming trip to rainy Norway so I can be hands free when taking photos and using hiking poles. Like that the brim and tail are useful for both rain and sun protection. Like the folding feature (better than my stiff Tilley hat). Now my husband wants one too.

Hats made a good trip

We wore our new hats at Disneyland during lots and lots of rain, and they kept us dry.

Hat hater loves the way this one fits!

I am not a hat person, but I am 100% public transportation so I spend a good amount of time walking to and from bus stops in the rain. This hat is a huge improvement over the built-in hood of my windbreaker or winter coat. It sheds the rain away from my neck, shoulders, and chest so my jackets can keep me dry. The feature I like the best, though, is the cinch strap for getting the fit just right. I wear a large size hat, usually, but when it's windy or if I just lean over, my hats will usually fall off. Not this one!

LOVE this hat!

I recently moved from the Midwest to the PNW and enrolled my kids and myself in some forest school classes. I wore this to class for the first time last week and loved it! It works so much better than just a hood of a rain jacket. I especially appreciated it keeping my face dry as a glasses wearer. Also love how the fit is adjustable and that it folds up / inward.

I had found this hat on the REI website originally, and was very happy to find a better price on Sunday Afternoons website. Will definitely be back for sun / rain hat needs for our family.

Great Hat

It is a hat that I have wanted to own. The sale came on time and now I own one. Great for protection when I am outdoors for long hours under the hot sun. Light weight!

Not water proof

I took this on a 2 week trip in Alaska and after a full day of rain my head was definitely wet. The materials on the inside don't dry out that quickly either. I think for short periods of rain it would do ok, but it doesn't stand up to a full deluge.

My go-to hat (but not as good as the original)

I love the ability to fold up the hat. It’s compact enough to shove into my hiking pants front pocket. My previous favorite is a vented fedora style hat from a well-known Canadian brand, but I found it inconvenient to store (I usually hang it on a carabiner attached to my backpack. This is so much more convenient and it serve me well hiking in highly variable conditions (such as at home in the PNW and on a recent hiking trip in Alaska). The back of the hat provides excellent sun protection for the neck and avoids rubbing against the backpack (as the fedora often does).

Unfortunately, I lost my previous hat on the aforementioned Alaska trip and I immediately ordered a new one before I even boarded my return flight. I was somewhat disappointed that the toggle adjustment for the chin strap has been replaced with a rubber slider. It’s much harder to adjust than the old spring loaded toggle. I mentioned this to customer service and they claimed that failure of the toggle was a primary cause of warranty claims. Perhaps that is so, but I’m guessing lower cost is another big reason and I knocked a star off a review that I would otherwise regard as 5 star.

Perfect for working around vehicles!

I am a truck driver running about 500 miles with multiple drop/hook stops, and this is far and away the best hat I’ve ever used in the rain.

A HAT I CAN WORK IN

I am a photographer and was given the Ultra Adventure Storm Hat as a gift. I have been unable to wear a brimmed hat while doing photography because the brim would interfere with me getting to look threw the viewfinder. Initially unknowingly that the purpose of the split brim was for easy fold up for storage. I would fold it up while wearing it and would be able to look through the viewfinder without any obstructions while taking my photos. A feature that makes it work so well for me that I ordered a second one as a back up

Please produce more of these!!

I bought one in Shadow and lost it and am upset that it's out of stock everywhere. It was the perfect hat for sun and rain. It was practically brand new and I miss it every time I need a hat. Please produce more of these!!

WISH IT ALSO HAD DERMA SAFE SPECS

Love the hat and purchased because of the waterproof feature. However, wanting the best of all worlds, would prefer the brim and cape be expanded such as it with the derma safe hats; want to protect from both the wet elements and that sun thing!

A perfect sun protection for any water sport

I bought this to replace my beloved Offshore Water hat that was somehow lost and is now discontinued. While it's not been out on the water yet, the hat looks great and is very adjustable. I'm hoping the wider brim doesn't catch the wind, and will see if the string tie works as well and is as comfortable as the chin strap. Sunday Afternoons are the best!

Amazingly Versatile Adventure Storm Hat

This adjustable style of hat fits my head no matter whether I wear my hair up, (adding bulk), or down in a braid. It is comfortable in either situation. This Storm version is great in the rain. The brim is broad enough and sloped such that water does not hit my glasses even when I am moving quickly. I find it perfect for all day wear in quirky spring weather. In the morning when it’s cold, the longer sides protect my ears, yet it is still comfortable to wear in the afternoon sun and then continues performing well when the wind picks up and a rainstorm rolls through. I haven’t even mentioned the clever reverse split brim design which allows the hat to be packed flat but doesn’t compromise the waterproofing. I find this hat amazingly versatile and well worth purchasing.

Great function and comfort

I liked my hat so much, my husband got one too. I got it for hiking in the rain when I don't want to overheat or have my vision and hearing restricted with the hood of my raincoat. I can still put a thin hat under it if I get cold. The back flap covers my rain hood so no water runs down my neck yet allows ventilation. The muted blue color goes with all my jackets.

My new rainy day hat

Like my other Adventure Hats, the fit and comfort is the best of all the brands I own. Have not been able to try it in the rain yet, but I know I will love it when the need arises.
