I bought one of these hats because I loved the features - it's vented, has a wide enough brim, holds my sunglasses, is light, floats on water, has a secret compartment and great styling. But, even the smallest size (medium) never fit me well. Using the size adjuster just made me feel like someone was pushing on the back of my head. Long story short, a gust of wind blew this hat right down to the bottom of the Exit glacier in Seward, Alaska. Not only did I lose the hat, but I also left something behind and ruined nature. I thought I had found the perfect hat, but now I don't know if I am going to invest this much money for a hat that doesn't fit me well enough!
After purchasing and wearing several Tilley hats over the last twenty years I decided to give the Sunday Afternoon Charter hat a try. I have several friends that had changed over to the Charter hat because of the Tilley cost and they all raved over their new hats.
After receiving my new hat in an unbelievable three days from order to delivery, the first thing I noticed was the huge, heavy duty reusable cardboard box that my new hat arrived in. This box insured my hat arrived in pristine condition. I even saved the box for storing my hat when not in use.
The hat itself is all that I had hoped for and more. The quality is outstanding and the fit, color and comfort is amazing. I honestly believe this is a better quality hat than the Tilley for almost half the price! I have worn it everyday now for the past two weeks and have had many compliments on it.
I'm so happy, I immediately started shopping for another Charter in a different color!
Sunday Afternoon has a new customer for life!
ZERO VENTILATION. Fits and looks good. BUT that mesh at the top is woven with a polyester material behind it and believe me you cant force air through it, much less vent out heat or let ANY fresh air in. Definitely pass unless your looking for an UN-ventilated winter hat. I took it out on a beautiful day 72 degrees wind blowing and was sweltering in it. I tested the mesh for airflow and there is nothing going through that material it is purely for looks.
i purchased this hat in the sand color, size medium (the smallest size available). it arrived, and i was very disappointed ... (1) the hat was much too large for me to wear, and (2) the color was much darker than it appeared in the online catalogue. the “sand” color resembled no sand i’ve ever seen, and was much closer to a darker olive color. so, very disappointed in a hat that wasn’t the right color and was too large, i returned it. the hat was great, just the wrong size and color.
i am very disappointed in this vendor for not providing postage-paid returns; i spent 20% of the purchase price to ship the hat back via USPS.
I have the Charter hat in Florida and liked it so much I purchased one for here in New Hampshire. I believed I was ordering on line the same hat color but the "Chaparral" color is much darker than the "Sand" color that I have in Florida. I think the color chart on the web site is misleading. However, I decided to keep the "Chaparral" since I like the hat so much!
