We do extensive testing on our finished masks, headwear and accessories to ensure compliance to regulatory standards and our internal Restricted Substance List (RSL). The 100% polyester, Coolcore® fabric in our UVShield Cool Face Mask was tested by The Hohenstein Institute and SGS.
SGS performed extensive chemical screenings, colorfastness, and dimensional stability testing but most notably, we had the wicking performance and drying rate tested and the UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor).
The Hohenstein Institute, a Germany-headquartered global third-party testing partner, researches the human-textile-environment interaction in real-life use situations. The makers of Coolcore® partnered with the Hohenstein Institute to test the cooling properties of the fabric by simulating the heat management of human skin in a controlled environment. Coolcore® fabric boosts long term cooling, which was legitimized by the Hohenstein Institute testing. Between the 10-20-minute mark for testing, the heat loss over time was at least 5 times that of the 5-10 minute mark.
We worked directly with our fabric mill partners to verify the bluesign® and OEKO-TEX certificates for the fabrics that make up the mask. bluesign® is a standard of environmental safety for textiles. If a fabric is bluesign certified, it means that the raw materials used to create it have been reviewed based on their ecotoxicological impact, and toxic chemicals or processes have been replaced with more sustainable alternatives. Similarly, Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified fabric has undergone testing to ensure that it is free from harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to be detrimental to human health and the environment.
In addition, we partnered with SGS to screen for chemicals of concern, colorfastness, dimensional stability, elastic stretch/recovery tests, wicking performance, drying rate and UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) for our masks. SGS is the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. They operate a network of more than 2,600 offices and laboratories around the world.
No. Our masks are non-medical face coverings.
Yes. Our masks are reusable, washable, and designed for day-to-day wear.
Our masks are designed for a snug, secure fit on your face. The unique contouring of the mask allows your nose to be covered while allowing clearance around your eyes for visibility. It also curves on the bottom, allowing a more secure fit below the chin.
If the mask is too tall, cinch down the mask fabric around the elastic ear loop for a custom fit. You can also tie a knot in the elastic ear loops to size down if needed.
Our Adult mask is One Size, which can fit a person’s width (ear to ear) between 11 to 17.5 inches and height (nose bridge to chin) between 4 to 5.5 inches, with adjustments.
Our Kids’ mask is Kids’ M/L (3-12 yrs), which can fit a person’s width (ear to ear) between 10 to 15 inches, and height (nose bridge to chin) between 2.5 to 4 inches, with adjustments.
In April 2020, we led the procurement of 200,000 surgical masks for Oregon regional hospitals at a reduced cost, with the goal of providing essential medical equipment to health care workers on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Coolcore® is a performance fabric that regulates temperature by managing heat and moisture. The proprietary construction helps manage and distribute your body heat, and if you work up a sweat, it cools through regulated evaporation. Coolcore® fabrics are engineered to distribute moisture quickly throughout the garment. Since the moisture spreads throughout the garment, it will dry much faster, keeping you cool and comfortable.
No. That’s why we chose to partner with Coolcore®. While other cooling fabrics use chemicals to enhance wicking, transportation, and evaporation, Coolcore® fabrics are chemical-free. Topical chemicals can not only can be harmful to your skin, but after only a few washes, the cooling properties of the product are no longer effective. Coolcore® cooling technology is built into a fabric’s fibers, preventing any decline in performance and maintaining cooling properties for the life of the garment. For more information, visit our Coolcore® Fabrics page.
As a first step, we recommend adjusting the position of your mask and glasses. For example, try pulling the mask up and resting your glasses over the mask to create a better seal at the top, which should minimize upward airflow. Keep the mask snug around your face.
Another tip: wash your glasses in soap and water. Soap leaves behind a thin layer that helps to act as fog barrier.
We recommend washing your mask after a full day of use, or if damp or dirty. Our masks are machine washable, and we recommend line drying.
