This hat made it through a rough summer of hiking and camping in great condition. Despite being worn for days on end, being stuffed into a pack for hours, being sat upon in leiu of a seat, and falling onto a lake (it floats), the only wear it bears is a few torn stitches and more marks on the canvas. Be aware: the canvas comes pre-worn, and any scratching of it will produce more marks.
Of course, this hat isn't perfect (nothing is). I got the large, as I knew that a medium would be too small, but I still had to adjust it. When the adjustable band is tightened, it scrunches up the whole hat in the back, including bending the brim, which is just stiff enough but not terribly so. It's not that bad and doesn't interfere with performance, but don't be surprised by it.
I also found that the sunglass lock feature is less practical than simply putting your sunglasses around the crown itself.
That being said, this is still a great hat. It's not delicate: it's rugged and practical. It'll take what you throw at it, all the while still maintaining a classy air. I am relieved that the adjustable band does not get in the way of comfort. In fact, not only is it comfortable, but it makes for a great fit that won't easily fall off your head. And, of course, it keeps your head well-protected from sun and rain. I never had to apply sunscreen to my head, and I never got burned there. I particularly appreciate the flat brim: it's much more practical than bent brims that leave the sides of your head more exposed.
This isn't the fanciest hat, but if you're considering it, I'd say that it's totally worth it.
Very pleased with blue version of hat, light weight, great for bright spring or fall outdoors wear.
Actually wore the blue hat with suit on trip May 1st to White House Rose Garden and Pentagon Courtyard when I covered recognition of Army football team winning CinC Trophy
A favorite hat, might order the tan version for summer time.
