Our founders — young, idealistic, and full of energy — start their lives together on a mountain ranch in northern California. They strive to "live out their dreams" off the grid and in harmony with the earth.
With their growing family in tow, our founders move to Ashland, Oregon, where they spend long summer days windsurfing and exploring nature. Angeline decides the world would be a more comfortable place with dry backsides, so she sews an all-weather picnic blanket for their adventures.
The Adventure Blanket gets noticed wherever it goes, inspiring Robbin and Angeline to make a venture of their “Adventures” by selling the blankets at craft shows and festivals around the Northwest. The blankets are a hit and sell as fast as the couple can make them.
Robbin and Angeline make it official, forming a company and naming it Sunday Afternoons in honor of their favorite family downtime. Our brand is born! We increase production and fine-tune our products with easy-to-clean, high-tech fabrics.
With colorful blanket scraps piling up, we hatch a plan to sew them into sun hats to sell alongside our blankets. Our first style, the Sun Drizzle, strikes a chord with our outdoor-loving customers, who start asking for more styles and colors of hats for their adventures.
Our small business continues to grow. We convert our garage to an office and hire our first full-time employee. We start our tradition of real-life product testing by hosting the first annual rafting trip and campout, where friends try out our products and give us feedback.
Years of tinkering with hat design and listening to the feedback of our customers leads to our breakthrough product: the Adventure Hat. It features UPF 50 fabrics, a wide brim, and a protective neck cape. We file for a patent, and within the year we are selling more hats than blankets. We think we're on to something.
To boost demand, we start attending trade shows. The day before our much anticipated debut at the Outdoor Retailer show, a tornado rips through the tent where we are to exhibit. Thankfully no one is hurt, and with a stroke of good luck we land an even better space, launching our wholesale business.
We create a new logo to reflect our focus on sun protection. We again find ourselves in need of more space and set up shop in a repurposed firehouse in Talent, Oregon. We add winter hats and our best-selling Kids' Play Hat to the line.
We officially welcome the second generation. The kids who played on the original Adventure Blanket back in the day join the company in full-time roles.
Our Kids' line takes off with the introduction of the Kids' Fun Bucket hat and a line of sun protective tees and swim shirts.
We start our Giving Back program by supporting causes near and dear to our hearts.
We open a Sunday Afternoons retail store in Ashland. Stop by and say hi if you're ever in town!
We roll out a new logo and continue our focus on creating hats for every outdoor adventure.
We celebrate our 25th year in business with the launch of our Heritage Collection and our first line of winter knits. Our family and business continue to grow. We're looking forward to the next 25 years of outfitting the adventures of outdoor lovers everywhere.
